The Book

Hike Your Own Hike book cover by Francis Tapon

I hiked the 2,168-mile Appalachian Trail in 111 days and the adventure inspired me to write Hike Your Own Hike: 7 Life Lessons from Backpacking across America

It’s part self-help book, part adventure tale. Follow my crazy pilgrimage from Maine to Georgia and pick up some wisdom along the way.

Those who order it on this web site (or come to one of the events below) get an autographed copy with free shipping!

I am donating nearly half of my book royalty to the three major trails in America, known as the Triple Crown (Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, and Continental Divide Trail).

Where you can find Francis

I'm in San Francisco right now. I'll be presenting on Thursday, April 10 @ 6:30pm, organized by the Harvard Club, held at Sports Basement in San Francisco. Here's the official blurb:

First Ever Yo-yo Hike of the Continental Divide Trail: Mexico to Canada and Back:

After hiking the Appalachian Trail in 2001 and the Pacific Crest Trail in 2006, Francis Tapon set out last April on his most ambitious adventure yet–to become the first person to complete a roundtrip (yo-yo) hike of the Continental Divide Trail. Join Francis for a multimedia presentation of his nearly 6,000-mile, six-month journey, which took him from southern New Mexico north to Montana’s Glacier National Park, and back. As Francis shares tips on gear, trip planning and life lessons learned on the trail, he’ll discuss what it takes to successfully complete a thru-hike of extended length. Following the program, Francis will sign copies of his book, Hike your own Hike: 7 Life Lessons from Backpacking Across America.

In 2008 I should go to Eastern Europe, maybe Latin America, and then by 2009 I should start end a nationwide book tour!

For those who like to plan ahead, I also have a 10 year plan!
